YAGS 0.3.1-rc is out — I have tagged v0.3.1-rc Main change that this release brings is a *very* experimental feature: built-in scripting. The feature is turned off by default. To build yags with scripting: [preformatted] Scripting uses rhai language. Example script that adds "mentions" to gemlog can be seen here: [https link] mention.rhai or if you prefer version with syntax highlighting: [gemini link] mention.rhai.gmi 👋 [https link] YAGS codeberg repository [gemini link] Previous...
I have a late-2010s ThinkPad running OpenBSD, but it's about as fast as a snail carrying heavy shopping through molasses. I'd like to run something other than Linux, for variety, but the other members of the BSD family failed for various reasons. What OS do you guys think I should try? Note: The machine in question has 8GB of RAM and an SSD. UPDATE: I am now running Slackware with Window Maker. However, further suggestions are still appreciated.

Grey Room (Oct-3-2021)_some blood — An old Krita painting of this character I randomly drew in 2021 as a quick painting, and she's basically a walking corpse wearing a offwhite dress, and lives in a gloomy building made of strangely constructed concrete. I'm now calling her Ms.Smilia as well too.
DIY Gemini Servers... — I am kind of tired of bending over backwards to code CGI games running behind a server built for an entirely different purpose. I am just going to write my own. This is easier than what I am doing now, opening and closing users and game state databases and loading the same stupid files for every click. The game logic is really, really fast with the game pre-loaded. User data is likewise in RAM. The only variable is the network. I could write a simple async server...
I want to post more higher quality compressed images, are there other ways to compress an image for the Gemini protocol without messing up the quality? I also use Optimazilla's image compressor since...a long while I think.
Alhena Tabs and Undefined Ratios — Alhena 5.3.1 is out with the following enhancements: Configurable tab location: Horizontal (top/bottom) or Vertical (left/right) Big Scrollbar option to hopefully address useability on Linux phones There are also bug fixes addressing the busy spinner when opening media in a new tab, resolution issues with certain relative links and an error with empty favicon.txt files. If something's missing or you find a bug. Let me know. If you like Alhena, don't be shy....

New SpellBinding Server — I am happy to announce that, finally, SpellBinding and other games have a dedicated server. After moving the games from tilde to tilde I am looking forward to 100% uptime. Soft open to iron out any remaining issues [gemini link] Let me know if there are any dangling links or anything else ungodly.

Intel NUC — This has to be one of my worst purchases. I have been trying for years and putting up with this nonsense for years to get the damned HDMI out to be functional 100%. HDMI will randomly crash into snow and blink out for 3 seconds. Sound works sometimes, when it feels like it, after the appropriate blood sacrifice over a blood moon. I finally come into a lower resolution monitor, hopeful that it will behave at less than 4k with older tech. What a fool I was. It is no different. I had...
ROOPHLOCH 2025 announced by solderpunk — For any that didn't see it, solderpunk announced ROOPHLOCH 2025, a fun activity for Gemini and Gopher space users. [gemini link] Announcement page I'll participate this year. I hope others do as well.
My New USBs — A small pack of USBs for general storage of some stuff, I'm currently using my "mint" green USB to save Linux ISOs to test and mess around in Virtual box. I'm also thinking of my "Vanilla" USB for game roms I want to play using RetroArch on my laptop. ------ Cherry, Blackberry, Mint, Blueberry, and Vanilla
I wrote an article about my first experience with the Misfin protocol, which includes an overview, CLI examples, and a server setup guide for Estampa in the Ukrainian language: [gemini link] Misfin - поштовий сателіт Geminispace
The Scarred Woman — "I saw her again! The scarred woman!" The night auditor sighed. He had heard this all before. Ghosts in the hotel. Regrettably, sometimes people *did* die in hotel rooms, typically either from substance abuse or just everyday medical concerns. This hotel was fortunate enough to rarely see the former, but was nevertheless no exception. So yes, there probably were a few ghosts around. But he was getting a little tired of hearing about this particular ghost. "Of course you...
Lagrange v1.19: Site Structure, Vertical Tabs, and Subscription Management — What's new in v1.19? New toolbar tabs: site structure, subscription manager, vertical tabs. Bookmarks can be filtered in the sidebar. Quoted text can be shown in regular style or italics. Added settings to choose which toolbar tabs are shown, and on which side. Dropdown menu for switching between toolbar modes. Reorganized settings: there is...
scripting in yags — There's already CGI support in YAGS, but now I'm working on scripting inside YAGS. I was thinking about lua, but right now, I'm experimenting with RHAI. It looks promising, here's a sample script, that is supposed to add "mention" functionality on every uri, containing `/alice` (in reality `/gemlog`: [mention.rhai script]
LSD dream emulator music is always calming to me, and calms my nerves sometimes.
Help building gemserv please — I know nothing about rust, but am trying to get gemserv to work on my aws instance. [https link] When I try to build it with 'cargo build --release', I get a bunch of openssl -related errors: [preformatted] I tried everything I can think of as far as the environment variables go, /usr/local/ssl was just the latest attempt... I am on ubuntu 24.04 with latest openssl from the distro, btw. I did try to hand-compile that monstrosity, but went back to stock. Any help...
