< A Study in Scarlet & Sign of the Four

Stories from the 1800s are quite something. They've done a lot to establish tropes and habits in our modern literature, so it's always a fun read to check how they've handled the topics back then.

I haven't read Doyle but I've had a go at the classics like Frankenstein, Dracula, a bunch of Poe's works and a bit or Arthur Machen too. And the odd old novel from my country too.

I love the Enlightenment/Victorian era settings. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is an excellent book set in the period. The Egyptian is a great Finnish book. I’d love recommendations on other that have good English translations as my Finnish is poor.
