The Baofeng UV-5RM Plus: My Upgrade With Frequency Copy Function
I recently upgraded to the Baofeng 5RM after using the classic UV-5R for almost 2 years, and it's a huge step forward. The UV-5R is still a fantastic radio, but the 5RM adds modern features that make it more convenient and versatile.

Why You Need a Tiny Radio Like the Baofeng UV-5R
Before you ask: yes, it looks like a toy. Yes, it's cheap enough to make you suspicious.
And yes, it absolutely WILL outperform your smartphone the second things get even slightly weird.

Fix CasaOS - Failed to load apps, please refresh later
If you run CasaOS on your servers you might have seen that after the latest docker update to version 29.0.2 the apps under CasaOS no longer appear and an error is shown saying:
Failed to load apps, please refresh later

A short log of troubleshooting adventures with my Lenovo ThinkStation P510.
What started as a simple click and no power mystery turned into a proper PSU replacement story.

The Addictive Pull of Evony: The King's Return
I never thought a mobile game could get under my skin the way Evony: The King's Return did. At first, it was just something to fill a few spare minutes - build a little city, train some troops, join an alliance, and watch my kingdom slowly grow. It felt harmless, even relaxing. But somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling casual and started feeling like a responsibility. It started taking me a lot of time doing everything necessary in the game ...

Think this would be nice. How about we each share the services we self host in our homelabs. I'll start
On my main machine, running Ubuntu server 24.04 I run CasaOS for easy docker deployments with:
my own docker images for gopher://sava.rocks, gemini://sava.rocks, finger://sava.rocks/sava and https://sava.rocks for my domain sava.rocks
Trillium - best note/code taking app
NGINX proxy manager
ZNC
Gotify
Duplicati
Jellyfin
Wireguard
Gitea
Uptime Kuma
I plan on adding Nextcloud and Syncthing to it as well.
What do you host?

My daughter just turned 8, and one of her birthday gifts was a tiny thermal printer - the kind that spits out little notes, stickers and Sudokus with no ink, just magic.
She loved it ... for about a day.
Now I'm the one using it constantly for a lot of stuff.

Automating Git Repo Updates and Navigation with a POSIX Shell Script
Managing multiple Git repositories for different services or components can get tedious. Whether you're working on small personal projects like a blog, a Gemini site, or HTTP microservices, jumping between directories and pulling the latest changes manually is a chore.
That’s why I wrote a simple, POSIX-compliant shell script to:
Automatically pull updates from a list of Git repositories
Provide an interactive menu to open any of them directly in VS Code
Work reliably in any POSIX shell (`sh`), not just Bash
Get the script at

Do you have an UPS ? And a home lab? Awesome. This post is about configuring all your servers, raspberry pi's and even your gaming PC to shutdown gracefully in the event of a power outage.
The thing is that you can plug in the power cord for multiple devices in your UPS but, usually, an UPS comes with 1 data cable and, wait for it, a Windows application. With the USB data cable the UPS communicates with only one computer.
To connect all your computers to the UPS you are going to install Nut (Network UPS Tools)

What is your most used alias? Mine is the alias I use to update all docker containers for sava.rocks on all 4 protocols
