I appreciate the technical hurdles, but it is very silly that so many capsule/gemlog hosts require a normal www website to make posts. Nobody has accomodated the input limit, really? that seems preposterous to me! I would very much prefer to be able to use gemspace without having to leave the ecosystem and go somewhere else to continue interacting with gemdspace. kthxbye

@half_elf_monk Capsule hosts could let you split your gemlog posts into "chunks" separated by a backslash — as long as an input string ends with a "\", you will continue getting input prompts that will get stiched together later, making the character limit not an excuse (or at least not the sole reason) for hosts to rely on HTTP for editing. I say could, because this is down to their implementation of the capsule. · 6 months ago
@lucas that is technically leaving the echosystem but it's also a choice you are making, not an externally enforced (and unneccessary(sic)) limitation being placed on you. I dunno, it's just a pain point for me personally. I don't enjoy having to switch back and forth, especially because my pc is getting up there in years and modern web browsers are not exactly light-weight applications lol · 7 months ago
@userfxnet expired certs are also becoming a point of frustration for me lately ha. I wish folks would please pick an expiry date that isn't likely to occur in in any reasonable timeframe. I mean we are approaching 6 years of gemini so stuff like a 10 year exipiration date are not reasonable IMO. these things aren't really "mission-critical" so I'm not sure why folks were choosing like 3yrs etc · 7 months ago
gemini://cities.yesterweb.org is very much still active (though expired cert will have to notify host for), and they provide a very simple-to-use gemini-client file manager titan interface that helps you set your pages and other content up however you like. · 7 months ago
@lucas could you explain more of what you mean? I'm using amfora, and find that the input limit... is frustrating... when I reach that limit without realizing it. · 7 months ago
One reason I can post here is because it stays gemini. Frictionless. A few other places don't and aren't. It's irritating. · 7 months ago
Geminispace lets you concat long posts by ending with a backslash so the input limit isn't the issue. That being said, I SSH into my capsule to edit gemlogs and such, does that count as "leaving the ecosystem"? · 7 months ago
