Nice. Since you're working on it, maybe now is a good time for me to suggest that making it playable in monochrome clients would be nice.
@mbays, I will take a look
How do you envision a monochrome client? Do you mean no ANSI color, or yes ANSI color but monochromatic for colorblind people?
I've considered using uppercase for success and lowercase for fail, but we need 3 states in the main display: Correct position, incorrect position, and just wrong letter. I suppose there are strikethrough glyphs that could be used
I have a suggestion for this one, check the implementation on this site for ideas:
@stack I'm mostly thinking of my e-ink monochrome display, but generally it would be nice to support clients which ignore the escape codes. I'd go for reasonably unobtrusive characters next to the letters to indicate correctness, say '.' and '|'. If you think that's too ugly, it could be an option (which could also disable ANSI codes entirely).
you could combine this idea with the "circled alphanumeric" that you are kind of using for 'eleven', and maybe come up with something that can be colored or not, depending on user preference (have a link for color and another for b/w, maybe?)
I just randomly came across it!
It seems to a pretty good job without color.
I don't think I need to rewrite it. Mine has colors.
@mbays, let me know how it looks in monochrome, and I could probably adjust the colors so it works for everyone.
@stack The client just strips ANSI. But don't worry, the spool5 implementation is indeed fine.
@mbays - not too worried, but what is spool5?
