Due to changing commercial habits, at the end of 2025 Denmark stopped offering postal services to focus on parcel delivery. Observing this detail, I ask an open question: Is Denmark right to eliminate postal services?

A) Absolutely, it is a service that currently serves no purpose.

B) Not at all, postal services are still relevant and worth keeping.

@half_elf_monk It's more a case of switching from Windows to Linux, something that many EU countries are already doing to avoid dependence on US products. Work is underway on EU OS, which is based on Linux but is intended for the whole of Europe. There are projects such as Openwebindex and European Alternatives that seek to reduce technological dependence on the US. ยท 3 months ago

That said, did I hear the rumors rightly that Denmark is trying (somehow) to make their own OS, or get somewhat independent of Microsoft in terms of the software used on their official state computers? ยท 3 months ago

Thumbs up to @xoagray, who makes another good point about reliability. ยท 3 months ago

Leaving aside the importance of physical objects for physical human beings, postal delivery seems like an important OOB communications system which blunts cybersurveillance dystopias because {your political oppoents} can't grep snailmail. Sure, letters could be opened, but that takes time and effort. Keep the post running, rain or shine! ยท 3 months ago

I don't know about how Denmark is set up, but I know here the postal service can work even if there's no internet, it might stil lbe able to work without power. In the event that our internet or power grid ever gets taken out (which is a more and more likely scinario) mail would still run.

Assuming Denmark could do the same, I think totally ditching it is a bad idea. Also, personally I think regardless of how good or reliable digital messages may be, they'll never replace the feeling of getting a physical letter from someone. ยท 3 months ago

@chirale I always say that there can be a โ€œCโ€ option. What's more, in all the questions I ask, there is always room for debate and free choice, so that regardless of whether it's โ€˜Aโ€™ or โ€œB,โ€ there is always the option to express a completely different opinion. I just show the way; each person must follow the path completely freely ๐Ÿ™‚ ยท 3 months ago

It's a closed question since only two alternatives are provided. ยท 3 months ago

I mail checks all the time, but I'm in the USA and our fintech is from the past... ยท 3 months ago
