I enjoy the fact that Gemini is a stripped down web. It's not necessarily secure and it's not a drop-in replacement for the regular web but it's clearly not designed to be. Just peeling off all the layers of crud (no pun intended) off the web leaves us with an enjoyable and way less stressful platform, IMO. Intentional simplicity in the modern world is like breath of fresh air that we could all use more of.

MIT and similar permissive "open" liceneses serve to enable proprietary software vendors to parasitize free software by removing the obligation to make changes available under a free license. That means they get to profit off of your work without and they don't have to pay it forward. It undermines the entire ethos of what FOSS is and it brings us back to the "embrace extend extinguish" days but with a fancy new hat. Don't release your projects under these kinds of licenses if you value Freedom in Software at all.

I like nushell generally but the output of the date function is hideous. I had to rewrite a script in bash because the timestamp it was appending to a file was unreadable without more work on my end to format it post-stamp. Maybe there is some magical way to do it but I couldn't figure it out beacuse the documentation can be a mess sometimes

pips enforcement of not installing outside of virtual environments is some real bullshit. I shoudln't expect any less from the infantilizing milieu of corporate software dev but I hate that it's being enforced unconditionally without recourse to a workaround. I am an adult and if I want to install a package system wide, without having to set up a venv, that should be my prerogative. This is just another example of how modern tech forces itself onto users. You simply cannot be allowed to conform your tools to your needs, you must submit yourself to whims of the tool.

Having to put certain search terms in quotes to preven the search engine from ignoring them is quite possibly the most frustrating thing about current generation of search engines. I wouldn't have typed out the word if I didn't want it in the search parameters. Who thought this was something that people wanted? Outside of mindlessly enduring the reels brain bukake or shopping, using the modern web makes Sisyphus' endeavor seem downright logical. I pray every day for the next carrington event to destroy this edifice of shit we have built. @q
