The new Tomodachi Life for the Switch is so fun. I feel like I will still be playing it in 2 years from now.

Man, reading IRC logs of old communities as someone who wasn't on the internet a lot during these times always feels like jumping in time haha

Today I was waiting for the train. The station has a rain shelter which shields against rain and wind, so I go there. Then a person joins in and starts smoking... why are people like that? They didn't even think that it could bother the other people.

Kind reminder to consider donating a bit to the free open-source projects that you use, that safe you from expensive subscriptions :)

Some time ago I started building my own local music library. I usually use Lucida and download the songs I want, usually using Tidal as the source. How do other people usually do it? Today I heard of Soulseek for the first time... apparently that's pretty popular?

Watching Cinderella Closet (the 2025 drama) in Japanese right now. It is probably the first show I'm watching completely without looking words up or sentence mining Anki cards. You know all the learning finally pays off when you can just sit there and enjoy it, even though you don't understand every sentence perfectly.

I just wanted to express my excitement about the Ladybird browser, that will probably go into it's first Alpha this year. I hope it will gain enough popularity and donations. If, after many years, there is a lot of progress, I can really see it being the beginning of a new age for browsers.

I can't stress my frustration about the current state of the world wide web enough... Many websites that millions of people visit everyday are basically unusable without an adblocker. I'm currently in the situation of maintaining a Fandom Wiki about a technical topic and whenever I send it to someone and they open it without an adblocker I feel kind of embarrassed. On the other hand, Fandom proofed to be very reliable when it comes to hosting. Migrating away and hosting a wiki ourselves would not only take many hours because there is lots of content on there (it grew a lot historically), but also means that the private hoster now carries the burden of maintaining the VPS, webserver and potentially a domain.

I recently subscribed to Ente Photos to switch away from Google Photos and I can highly recommend it! They also offer "friendship" discounts for some other services from companies with similar goals, like a 3 month free trial for Kagi Search, which I'm also trying out atm. It's quite fast and results are good, not sure if it's worth paying for though.

Just learned about ReplayGain recently. How cool is that?? It literally solves the only problem I've ever had with my local music library!

Anyone tried setting up OutGuess recently? The package in the AUR doesn't build and the GitHub repo of "resurrecting-open-source-projects" also doesn't.

I wonder why so many people, especially higher rated players, are trying to argue that the Smith-Morra Gambit isn't sound when the engine clearly suggests that it is. Is that some kind of an ego problem or does it come from one of those phrases that "Gambits aren't real openings"?

I tried out the demo of "The Adventures of Elliot". It is literally what modern Pokemon games should have been. Not every game needs to be fully 3D with an open world.

Don't learn a language to pass exams. Don't let other foreigners tell you, that you need to take some specific tests to be "certified" on a certain language skill. Only other foreigners will care about it. It's important that you can actually understand and speak the language.

I forgot how much fun Pokemon Heart Gold is. I love the sprites and the little things like that the Pokemon walks behind you and that you can give your phone number to people and they will call you throughout the game. It all feels so alive. Also a quick side question: How do people usually share images here in the Geminispace? Like do they just put links to imgur or similar services, or is there a better practice for that? Thanks!

Pokemon Heart Gold is so much fun! Do you guys know that it's even possible to obtain the old Event-Pokemon and items through fan servers? They will even be counted as legit Pokemon! The PokeWalker routes are also nice. I also kept watching more Japanese shows on Netflix. Besides that, I thought a lot about the phrase "learning a language". I hear it so often, so I never really questioned it's legitimacy. But then I came to a conclusion for myself: In my opinion we don't "learn" a language as in studying it. We are just "getting used to it". It's the unconscious knowledge that helps us to use languages and it comes through only one thing: Immersion. Thanks for reading!

I think I will finally start playing Pokemon Heart Gold on Saturday with the goal of completing it for the first time. But I also need to prepare for a chess tournament on Sunday... I hope I can manage both!

So I kinda ignored my weekend plans and only immersed in Japanese a little bit. I watched the drama "Monster" and mainly did my Anki reps. I also started to play some Pokemon games again this year & today I beat the champ in Black 2! I will now see if there are any interesting things that I still wanna do and also catch some legendaries. After that I will finally start my Heart Gold journey and try to finish it, which I never managed to do before! Hope y'all had a nice weekend, thanks for reading!

Hi, this is my first post here! I'm planning to post about my Japanese learning experiences & some chess here. I wasn't watching a lot of Japanese content recently, as it was hard for me to keep up with my Anki vocabulary cards. I've set myself the goal of waking up a bit earlier to do my card reps in the morning, so that I can focus on immersion during the day. Maybe I'll start rewatching Terrace House this weekend. Last time I've watched it is already quite some time ago and I wanna see if I understand more this time. Thanks for reading!
