I like using lynx to browse gopherspace on desktop. Unfortunately, with more and more sites implementing CloudFlare to protect themselves against AI scrapers, lynx is becoming less and less useful for Web. · 4 months ago
Intersting. I have a CGI program that calls Lynx. I thought it would be neat to create an http proxy with Lynx as a starting point but it sounds like I need to check out some alternatives. · 4 months ago
I've heard a lot of good things about chawan

(I read some http subscriptions via offpunk, and have resigned myself to use librewolf when I need to browse) · 4 months ago
I'm currently using Alpine for email. Wish I could get a decent CLI browser experience. · 4 months ago
@zipsegv - agree. I'd use it way more, but the modern web just doesn't translate to textmode that easily. idk how to solve that, short maybe of some kind of creative text stripping done by gemini proxies like Stargate. Lynx with a "filter" might render pages better, and reduce the friction to use it as my main for reading blog posts and catching up on RSS feed. · 4 months ago
I have nothing against Lynx, it's very fun to play with, but if you feel like a more "modern" zero-JS browser I would recommend Dillo. NetSurf is very good too but it almost feels like cheating because there is an option to turn *some* JS on. · 4 months ago
my only problem with using Lynx is that navbars are annoying and always take up like half of the first page of any site. · 4 months ago
