I have read in several articles that tattoos are no longer in fashion and that the tattoo business is losing both customers and shops where they are done. Knowing this, I ask an open question: Will tattoos never go out of fashion, or are today's rebels those who do not have tattoos?

Also: as long as there are martial brotherhoods, tattoos will remain. Something where you've got literal skin in the game, and the guy next to you having your back means life or death. I'm thinking of the Navy, and also probably gangs. Those tend to stick around regardless of what does/doesn't seem "cool". · 4 months ago

idk about what's in fashion with various cultures/subcultures. That's gonna keep shifting. But tattoos seem like an option for self-expression, which (in my experience) is fashion elevated to a near-religious range of importance to people. So as long as we've got bodies, and people are dead-set on "expressing themselves" as a cry over against the limits of Reality, tattoos are an option. · 4 months ago

i give a fuck about fashion, i do what i like to. i am also tattooed for over 30 years now, had serveral pericings, brandings, cuttings... my artists told me an unwritten law, never tattoos on places where you can not hide them with regular clothing, except you are a maori. i removed my piercings for security reasons. but i would never let my tattoos beeing removed, everyone of them has a story to be told. but a good advise, never net your spine tattooed, the pain ins incredible ;) and i say that as an experienced bdsm player xD · 4 months ago

Been tattooed for over 30 years, same with piercings. It goes in waves: there are fashions, styles, movements, and if you're a good artist you'll have no lack of clients. Same as any industry. Word of mouth, recommendations and all that.

It may die down a bit, but people have been decorating their skin for tens of thousands of years, it's not going anywhere. You might see less dickheads on the Internet getting inked though. Less dickheads is always good!! · 4 months ago

It makes me wonder how recent this change in attitudes is, because as recently as a few years ago I thought tattoos were on an upswing rather than down. Heck, even some musicians and influencers are getting *face* tattoos these days, I would think that's a more visible promotion than the tattoo industry has ever received in the past. · 4 months ago
