Not sure. I think is nice but its very niche and have some overlapping with another niche protocol (gopher) making them compete and making its harder to get for new people.
I dont think it will grow much more over time. · 5 months ago
@b00ty4breakfast Both the protocol itself and the network around it. Likewise, and being able to be wrong for it, I intuit that the Gemini protocol does not only involve the computer field, if I remember correctly it has something of the Solarpunk culture. So, and in order to simplify everything helping in this way to the newcomers and less given to computer areas, it is better to include it in a whole (both network and protocol itself) 🙂 · 5 months ago
I'm honestly not sure, but I hope that it stays under the radar of the people that are currently making the WWW worse by the day. And that we never choose to mimic their behavior here. · 5 months ago
it will remain a "niche" protocol ... for the few and the brave, just like gopher · 5 months ago
the protocol itself? or the network that has come up around the protocol? Because those are 2 very different questions. · 5 months ago
Dont click the example link, it’s a hypothetical lol. Check out pxc though, it’s actually a client that can do just this what I’ve explained! You can find it at gemini://ingrix.info who is the maintainer of that client as well as a gemini server implement known as polluxd. · 5 months ago
Piped program integrated multimedia
e.g. “pxc gemini://address.tld/sub-dir/media.ext | mpv” piping multimedia content through software meant to playback the file · 5 months ago
