If we analyze it quickly, we could say that the Metaverse was a failure surpassed (or at least in terms of “currently active”) by the smol web. Now a new gadget has appeared that will eliminate a device, and knowing this, I ask: Ray-Ban Meta, successor to mobile phones, or are we facing another Meta disaster?

I heard Kevin Rose on diggnation podcase mention how completly unchill it is to walk into a room of people while wearing AR glasses.

This instant feeling of "am I be recorded" breaks all social connection. · 2 months ago

The HUD in the glasses seems useful for some things, specifically real-time translation and things like that where you want a data stream without having to state at a phone screen.

AR should be used in cases where it's superior to current solutions, I don't think it's ever going to be a full replacement for cell phones. It's a different technology and time will tell how many people find it compelling. · 2 months ago

Agumented Reality (AR) can beat VR. But relying too much to portable, wireless and Internet-connected devices is a bad idea, and not only bc you pay to gift a megacorp precious data.

However as a standalone device it could be a life saver during emergencies and daily duties, like a Star Trek tricorder.

if you're into anime I suggest Dennou Coil (Madhouse, 2007). · 2 months ago

There are a number of things one can do with smartphones that I can't see happening on these meta glaasses, like gaming, emails, typing this very message... so I am not sure the glasses will replace smartphones. Or maybe I am just unable to think outside of the box enough. · 2 months ago
