No Bold, No Italics, No Inline Links via adiabatic gemini://gemini.circumlunar.space/users/adiabatic/images/No%20bold%2C%20no%20italics%2C%20no%20inline%20links%2C%20final%20destination.png Great!
today's favourite : Best BW Mac Games gemini://neongd.com/articles/bestbwmacgames.gmi its worth reading it.
A PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT! While hiking in Brandenburg (Germany), not far from Berlin, I found a praying mantis sitting in the grass. It felt like hitting the jackpot: Mantis religiosa L. 1758 The European praying mantis is the only species among about 2,400 mantid species that occurs in Germany, particularly in Brandenburg. With its front legs folded as if in prayer, it is clearly distinguishable from other insects. Its skillful and well-camouflaged lifestyle, however, makes searching for it quite challenging. In Brandenburg, the praying mantis was first recorded in 2007.
Is there a place out there where people exchange thoughts about movies? I find something like a "What I Watched Last" list quite appealing—something about the film’s content, why someone should watch it, and how you came across it yourself. Where would be a good place to start something like that? At station? At BBS? On your own capsule? Any ideas or suggestions?
Give THIS a try: gemini://brainsocks.xyz/projects/textart/
A collection worth looking at: The left handed DNA collection - Hall of Fame. This collection shows Illustrations of DNA, which were flipped by the artist, illustrator or researcher resulting in a left handed DNA instead of a right handed one, which you can find in cells. http://users.fred.net/tds/leftdna/LeftHanded.DNA.html
Guess what! The free book table from the museum association had way better stuff than the actual museum shop. This was at the Archaeological State Museum here in Constance. But hey, the exhibition itself was still really worth it
Pond itches? Water jitters? Dog pox? Duck fever? Or just good old swimmer’s itch and cercarial dermatitis? I heard these terms as a kid spending summers at the lake in southern Germany. But it took me years to finally figure out what it was all about...
How much do you think it costs to empty a pit of approx. 3 square meters in an allotment garden? In Berlin. No other special costs or anything. And how much would it cost in your area? I would be really interested. I'll post the prices here later. Greetings to all
For all Esperanto fans or any plan languages. Recently read "Gedankenspiele über die Wahrheit" (~ "Mind games about the truth") by Clemens J. Seitz. Then I am over two books from him: "Die Bienen und das Unsichtbare" (~ "The bees and the invisible" and "Ein Meister der alten Weltsprache" (~ "A master of the old world language") to Esperanto and plan languages .... maybe worth a look, unfortunately only in German.
Today the earthworms are delivered. 500 g correspond to approx. 1000 compost worms. I'm very excited to see how quickly the organic waste will be used. The time-lapse videos where you can see how banana trays or the like are broken down is impressive. Now I will try it in my own garden. Someone here who has a similar project?
our small garden colony now has its own website for dates, instructions and news etc. I'm missing the Gemini version, of course. But since the potential users of the website are so rare and little technicaffin, - I think hard one would use a Gemini client, so not much will happen. or I'll set up something just for fun... what do you think?
COLLECTING THINGS: what are you collecting? would be interested in! I am collecting (rare) books - for the bookshelf and/or to read. Furthermore I have a small collection of postcards showing hospital architecture. thanx
If you're interested in MACROPHOTOGRAPHY of INSECTS, I highly recommend Bernhard Schurian from the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. He is an exceptional photographer in this field. Of course, there are other artists on this topic that you can easily find online. Here is the link to his website: https://schurian.com/
Interested in cultivation San Pedro or Peyote cacti? I have started to upload some PDF from Trouts Notes on Sacred Cacti here on Gemini. First PDF linked. Feel free to take a look on it. This unofficial archive is still work in progress. gemini://tilde.team/~mimas/trout/trout.gmi
reposted an old message about Gemini at https://collapsible.systems/ which is a mastodon instance running by Julian Oliver with "the goal to gather strategies, skills, disciplines, technologies, ideas, designs and critical thought in an effort to help prepare communities big and small for a time of great upheaval, an era of collapses (plural). .." feel free to take a look on it.
I would love to read more about Japanese insect culture, insect rearing, insect science and cultural entomology in general. i would have to learn japanese first, which seems to be anything but trivial. Translating Japanese websites with an online translation tool only works to a limited extent (at least into German). it's a shame.....
What are your spring projects for your garden? Like every year, I'm planning to do some farming and gardening: extend the greenhouse, finally grow mushrooms on straw outside and plant a Piro3 hedge, a rose with a lot of rose hip yield and no thorns (botanically more like prickles, I think). And at some point, breed quails... what's about you?
I would be very interested to know how many accounts were created here on Station in 2024! Is there a statistic on this? thankx
I really like using Station gemini://station.martinrue.com/ and BBS gemini://bbs.geminispace.org/ .... What else might I like here on Gemini? Suggestions are welcome...
Artist recommendation. 1-2025 In our present, which is organized to the last detail, commercialized and determined by new technologies, there is not much room. Thomas Lehnerer's work is intended to be an invitation to get involved in art and life - the outcome is open. His theoretical treatises and his practical work are particularly effective in the non-digital world and are therefore all the more recommendable. Thomas Lehnerer (1955 - 1995) was a German artist, theologian and university lecturer. His work includes Homo pauper and the World Society for Happiness.
antilibrary: I ordered two antiquarian books today. A dictionary of entomology and parasitology, from the GDR era. And a compendium of helminthology, much, much older. The antilibrary is , as you may know, described as a collection of unread books, which consciously serves as a symbol of the "known unknown". For me personally, this is a great idea and makes totally sense for me! what do you think? ever heard of it? thank you. For antilibrary, see Wikipedia, among other places, and you'll find blog entries about it...
Looking for an idea: we have several public forest areas with beautiful paths not far away, on the outskirts of Berlin. Does anyone know of small monitoring or mapping projects that would be suitable for occasional walks? It could also be something that I set up on my own for now. And is manageable. Inspiration?
Frustrated: Amazon seems to have become my go-to seller of Christmas gifts this year. Books still on site, but electronics and toys for the kids almost exclusively online. What's about you?
I'm in Waldenburg, Saxony in Germany. Has anyone heard of it? There's a natural cabinet here, founded in 1840. it is one of the oldest natural cabinets in Germany with a significant collection of naturalists, including minerals, fossils, ethnological objects and a collection of the very important Leipzig apotheker family Linck. The cabinet is virtually unchanged. I'm very excited. Then back to Berlin. take a look: link: https://www.museum-waldenburg.de/
@HanzBrix When it comes to insects, I have some special knowledge, but I wouldn't call myself an entomologist. Despite that, or perhaps because of that, I work in a natural history museum with specimens from the research collection. So much for the intro. I linked an early project here, which above all offers great pictures. doing zoosphere was very exciting, especially from the technical point oft view. The website is down, a bit about it on Google Arts and Culture: https://artsandculture.google.com/story/BQWxRH8HjbOkKA?hl=en the images are available via wikimedia: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_from_ZooSphere
Someone out there who is rearing and studying mantides, as a hobby or somehow commercialy? or as a resesrcher maybe? or is interested in? thanks.
We often have similar views on technology here in the Gemini space. So it would be interesting to know which apps are important to you when using your mobile phone. And which ones you do not really need? I'd be very interested to know, as it could be the usual suspects, but maybe something a little more unusual. Thanks in advance!
I bought a used IBC tank. Picked up 2 with my neighbor with a trailer. The tanks contained biological soil activators, which is not bad at all as I will be using the tank for watering the garden. The small greenhouse still needs to be set up. Then we can get started. What are your plans for this gardening year?
