I hate windows 11 so much, it’s unreal. My work computer (new job!) can’t handle
workspaces and paging
searching for files
wake-from-sleep
How do people still use this garbage?

I feel you. I use Linux for work and from the 00s, but let's stick to Windows I use for gaming: the other day I've installed Windows 98 first edition on a virtualbox from an original CD.
A breath of fresh air. When you click something, it doesn't wait for seconds to open. You can actually search for files. Directory structure is not hidden to the user. Windows 7 was the plateau, then things gone downhill.
Playing the Devil's advocate, nowadays PowerShell and WSL are good, but don't even try to use WinDirStat to see how much wsl costs in disk space! · 6 months ago
There are still a lot of poeple out there that think of Linux as it was 20 years ago, they're afraid they'll have to basically learn how to code to use it. Or that they'll have to do everything in the command line. Or that nothing they have will work on it. They won't be able to game on it, etc.
I'm alawyas amazed how many people I run into that have no idea what Linux is like today, and are stil working off all of these old assumptions. · 6 months ago
My answer: Under duress. Windows is on my work computer, and I'm not allowed to change it. (Also, Pyware does not run on Linux.) · 6 months ago
Been only working with Linux computers for most of this year. It's been great :) · 6 months ago
I think one of the main factors to take into account is the computer education they give to the little ones, if they grow up learning to use Windows they will not know how to use other OS, I think we should change that approach in education. In my case the first thing I do when I buy a new computer is to remove Windows, my last computer came with W11 and I'm still scared of such an aberration. · 6 months ago
oh, and I have a laptop running Windows 11. For the last year nothing funny happened. Everything works: VSCode, Docker, node, network drives etc. Never had an issue · 6 months ago
it's slowly going the other way. Just last year, the company I used to work for installed a scale for trucks (usually filled with cereal - wheat, corn, sunflower ) and I was pleased to see that the computer they brought was a Intel NUC running Ubuntu that had their scale app installed on it. · 6 months ago
using free softtware since 1996, except gaming, works fine for me ;) · 6 months ago
