Hearing about this new Google AI tool makes me genuinely concerned for the future of the entertainment industry, and also the environment. It feels like the last days we’ll have on this planet will be sterile, full of slop and impossible to even find jobs.

I like the idea of AI models and enhancing their use cases, but they won’t get anywhere if they continue to just be fancy advertising for big tech companies. · 6 months ago

@yamato I don’t live in a city, but I’m trying to make it as a game developer and movie director. AI will make jobs like those obsolete. Not because they can do a better job, but because it’ll be cheaper. I’m also concerned about entertainment online, which is likely going to be so full of AI slop it’ll become difficult to find human made content. AI as you may know just takes from existing works, so nothing new will be made from it. · 6 months ago

@dsilverz how could a dinosaur even contemplate the concept of extinction let alone see it's own impending extinction? that's a silly comparison. Humans know about extinction, have the the technique and technology to both predict and intercede to prevent our own impending extinction. We are not merely uncognizant plankton slowly and unknowingly converting the Siderian air into poison...we kno. · 6 months ago

You live in the city, don't you? Even if the whole world is taken over by AI and everyone loses their jobs, i will be 100% unaffected because I live in the countryside with my wife, and we grow our own vegs and stuff with just manual tools, and we meet local friends only face to face. There is no single aspect of our lives that depends on digital world even less on AI. So basically I don't know what you are talking about 🤣 · 6 months ago
