I'd argue that immortality only makes sense if you aren't the only one. Otherwise, you will be damned to eternal loneliness while everyone around you dies, the language evolves beyond your comprehension and eventually, even your home planet becomes consumed by a nearby star.

Unless you also gain other abilities that make you more fit for immortality (to counter some or all the negatives mentioned above) or aren't alone in being immortal, I'd likely decline. Then again, being immortal means you have a very long time to figure out a solution to these problems. · 2 months ago

Tangentially, what causes more pain? The fear of dying (method, physical pain, distress etc) or the emotional pain you know your passing will cause others?

If I had another stroke like the last one... it wasn't painful, just fading away. But knowing that my death will hurt my children so much scares me. I have to try and stay healthy for them.

I'm in a weird headspace. · 2 months ago

In my case, I would say no. I want to see some people, but for now, I think they'll have to wait... I don't believe in the future; we'll just have to live in the moment 🕺 · 2 months ago

@hacknorris that's the problem when you're immortal, you can not die as long as your head is on your neck ;) · 2 months ago
