No, it wasn't a cat's fault

Over the past couple of years we've fed many hundreds of birds. Last night, for the first time, we had to bury one. See, birds don't live forever and they nest here all day long. Sooner or later one of them will die, even if we successfully protect them from neighbours' cats.

Depending on the breed, birds can live for a few decades or just a few years. I've spent a long time campaigning for them, bottle-feeding them when they're unwell, we even caught some if we needed to remove litter from their feet (to save their feet from infections). While it's sad to lose one, this is the first we see dead in years. So statically speaking, we've evidently done OK.

If you can help wildlife as weather conditions worsen/toughen (there's climate change also), by all means do. █
