Summary: Larry Engel says goodbye to Microsoft and SQL Server suffers from false promises

MICROSOFT is still going through a rough period of technology disruption and declining financial results [1, 2, 3, 4]. It is therefore not surprising that many managers call it a day and the latest example is Larry Engel, who is quitting Microsoft.

Larry Engel, a 20-year veteran of Microsoft, announced Friday that he’s leaving the company to become chief product officer at Seattle startup Cozi. Engel most recently served as general manager of Microsoft Pinpoint, and before that held the GM title for the Microsoft Store and Marketplaces group.

These were not successful. In fact, Microsoft fails to catch up even with Apple when it comes to “Store” growth (electronic and physical). In other news — this time involving more delays — SQL Server software is being pushed back. At least it is not one of Microsoft’s many permanently dead products. █
