●● Gnote Would Fit Nicely in Ubuntu 10.04 (Default Install)

Summary: One reader’s thoughts about the advantages of putting Gnote in the next release of Ubuntu GNU/Linux

FEDORA (Red Hat) has already promoted Gnote as a replacement for Tomboy and Jeremy Allison opines that Tomboy has no place in the default install, let alone the repositories [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

A reader has just sent us the following:

I notice that among the dependencies for Ubuntu [9.10], is a choice of Gnote or tomboy.* There aren’t any interface reasons to use Tomboy over Gnote, since Gnote is a port of Tomboy to an open source programming language.* There aren’t any performance reasons to use Tomboy over Gnote because Gnote is smaller and faster.* There aren’t any packaging reasons, because Gnote has 15% fewer dependencies.* There aren’t any licensing reasons, because of the obvious.* There aren’t any developer reasons because C++ is ubiquitous and Microsoft Java imitation has virtually zero growth.So, why has not Gnote replaced Tomboy on the CD?

Any answers to this question would be welcome, but it is really a rhetorical one in some people’s view. █
