Netcup wanted my ID!
I tried to sign up for their cheapest VPS. They demanded that I provide them with a government-approved picture ID using a device with a camera via a link that mutt broke into 3 lines.
Harumph.
Naturally I ignored it, and two weeks later (today) they sent me an email that my order was canceled because I failed to provide a valid ID.
I could not resist and wrote a scathing email in response. That will show them!
Is it something about Germany specifically that makes people demand ID? They are probably on the forefront. I think there is that weird age verification nonsense that google is doing, but I certainly did not need ID for AWS.
I suppose Amazon knows everything about me already.

Here in Britain we have the Online Safety Act which is supposed to protect kids from harmful content on the web by requiring the same tyoe of age verification. Obviously it was immediately used by the government to classify anything they disapprove of as "dangerous content" so people have to jump through hoops to see it. Next it looks like we're gging to have some kind of weird dystopian digital ID card too.
Last time I was in Germany I bought a €3 snack for myself from Aldi. I got absolutely reamed because the signature on my card had rubbed off. A passport later and the issue was resolved with a stern warning. Should have paid cash.
can't spell netcup without see-you-pee
Luckily I vented at donotreply@netcup.de!
I was beginning to feel bad about losing control.
I think you were right to vent. In fact I would say say you should now show your disapproval to them via a live email address.
