Multi-player gopher game system — I find it interesting that I stumbled upon this capsule and specifically this subspace when I did. I recently started designing a game "system" (for lack of a better word at present) for Gopher to allow multi-player turn-based game engines to be written in a more-or-less UI agnostic way (which means they could theoretically be ported to Gemini or to the Web with little to no change). A game engine will provide the game logic and handle input (user actions) and...
Recommendation for active MUDs — I'm looking for MUDs or MUSHes that are active and easier to get into. Any space that are mysterious, dark are bonus! Eager to see recommendations ;)
It occurred to me that I've never posted this here. I've built a collection of interactive twisty puzzles (such as Rubik's Cube) on my capsule. I hope to add more puzzles over time, as well as general information about twisty puzzles.
New Game: Eleven — It is a variant of 2048 -- an amazing combination of a puzzle, luck, strategy, and has an almost arcade-like quality. [gemini link] I did not think it was possible to do something like that in Gemini, but now that I have a VPS and having written an incredibly fast Gemini server, it may actually work. Wth Lagrange I play with my left hand over 1,2,3, keys and right holding the Alt key, and I can achieve an almost terminal speed, several frames a second whn I go fast. There is...
Maze Of Murders! — This game has been commented around here already in the past, but it had gone missing from the url where it used to reside. Well, today I've found it again, while browsing links on the SDF gem space. Unfortunately, it seems it has not been active, and no new games are going on. The current game will end... 129 days ago, it seems Maybe I'll try emailing them and see if starting it...
just a quick FYI that I've had to bring down Flower Flood due to it getting abused by bots. I'll bring it back up when I have the chance to implement something like a captcha (sorry :<) Crostic Nines is unaffected, however. The whole capsule was down for a while as I was dealing with some systemd headaches, but it's back up now.
there's been a weird intermittent bug with Crostic Nines where loading a different page before the play page on a new day will cause a CGI error. i think i'm getting close to pinning it down, but will need to work through it a bit more. watch this space.
aaaand Deeby is back on the leaderboard for Crostic Nines. 😎🏆 Good to see you again!
A few parts of my capsule went offline awhile back, including the games (Flower Flood and Crostic Nines). They're back up again, at least for the time being... I still have to figure a few things out to make the devops a bit more robust. Anyway, enjoy!
A while ago I created a Mastodon bot that posts random text adventure scenarios and allows people to interact with them by replying to the posts: I've always wanted to develop the concept further. After playing some of the interactive maze/dungeon games on Gemini, like Mouse Maze and Maze of Murders, I've started putting together a little proof of concept to tinker with. Semi-roguelike, with some combat but mainly focusing on interaction and discovery. This'll probably take a long time before...
Today's puzzle turned out easier than usual! Crostic Nines ⑨ • 2024-12-10 ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅⭐ 🙋 17 💁 0 ⏱️ 49m 🏆 570pts [gemini link]
Spellbinding didn't like "swole." :(
Flower Flood 🌺 - An adaptation of the Flood puzzle made popular by Simon Tatham. No client certificates required, and should work on even the most basic Gemini clients! That said, it looks really good with ANSI colours on. [gemini link]
Got inspired and coded up another CGI Gemini game in the past 24 hours. Just testing right now; will announce it when security features and input sanitization is all done.
Crostic Nines, the daily acrostic word-guessing puzzle I've been working on, is now live for its alpha release. Check it out, and please let me know of any bugs you might find! [gemini link]
I'm working on a proof of concept for that game I mentioned earlier. I won't give away too much just yet, but it's a word guessing game. The basics of gameplay are working; making it look good in Gemini will come later. The biggest headache right now is generating grammatically correct clues. Right now, the word list includes a lot of derived forms, like "walks" and "walked". I've used NLTK and WordNet to auto-generate clues, but the problem is, it lemmatizes words and gives definitions for the...
WHAT. The new mode in Wordsquirreler... how are you supposed to get in between those roots? Find a twenty-two-letter word!? Awesome though, I was just thinking there ought to be a new one.
Gemini Game: Maze or Murders — stumbled on this gem. very neat Gemini protocol online interactive multiplayer game
waytris - tetris combined with conway's game of life — this is an old, small project of mine. it's tetris, but the board also obey the rules from conway's game of life. there are 4 modes: one where the board does a game of life iteration every 10 seconds, one where each line clear triggers a game of life iteration, one where every drop triggers a game of life iteration, and normal tetris. the tetris mechanics follow modern tetris guidelines, so t-spins and piece kicking and such will work as...
gemini CYOA rpgs — Is this a thing? A one player choose your own adventure style game hosted on the gemini protocol?
What kind of emulation do folks do? I'm currently using a Retroid Pocket 2 running everything up until Dreamcast. I'm trying to get PICO-8 to run on it, but it's being difficult for some reason...
My replacement playdate arrived in good condition. This thing is really neat. Really enjoying it so far. The firmware feels very snappy and good.
My playdate has shipped! Yay! For those that haven't heard of it, it's this weird little handheld with a crank and a 1-bit non-backlit display.
I miss old flash games. DDRKirbyISQ makes a bunch of nice little games, but their older work is all in flash. that also reminded me of Orisinal by Ferry Halim, who made some very soothing games to play in-browser.
