🌒 s/minimalism

Minimal web layout alts for Big Web spaces — Im doing this post from my user feed as the topic I have in mind doesn't seem to correspond to any s/subspace that exists as of yet. It's too connected to tech to post in s/casual and not related enough to gemini to post in s/discuss. Maybe I should start a s/general space for general topics, of random nature? Lmk what you think. Ok, so as for my inquiry: does anyone else still feel tied to modern platforms as a result of family/friends/work/etc yet...

🌒 s/Fediverse

Has anyone built a Gemini Fediverse server? — I just discovered Gemini today, and it is a fascinating approach to the Internet. One possibility that seems interesting is to build a Fediverse server with a Gemini front-end. It would have the following properties: Identity would be a Gemini certificate. The identity would be communicated in ActivePub as a hash/fingerprint of the public key. For example as @uyzwisfenxq3ydha@gemini.social Posts would be just Gemini input (10) requests with all the...

Primo foglietto — Salve, mondo! Dato che nessuno dei dieci italiani su Gemini ha ancora conficcato il palo con la bandierina su questo posto, mi prenderò cura di fare gli onori di casa.

Finally back on this thing after seven months. I added other certificates, so that I can access my account from my phone and my second computer. Now it’s time to take an actual look here!

Add search to your capsule with just a single link — 🎯 Kennedy Site Search adds search, just for your capsule, all from a single link line!

Encryption is a hell — Gemini encription is somewhat unusual. It relies on TOFU (trust on first use) principle. Suppose my provider is a jackass and he is implementing a MitM attack on all gemini connections, then my gemini program will not notice and all gemini capsules from this network perspective will be compromised. And if I use VPN after that, I will get warnings about certificate change. Than I have to guess where MitM attack was happened? Is it my provider messing with that, or is it a...

Suggestions for personal projects — I've just transferred all of my serious projects on Codeberg over to a separate organisation, and I've noticed that there are now only two mediocre repos on my main profile. Does anyone have any ideas for simple, handy things I could build to flesh it out? I code mainly in Python, I know HTML (but not JS), I regularly use Bash and Zsh, and I am learning C++.

Any experience with data scraping / crawler here on GEMINI? Can it be verified? I became aware of DARK VISITORS and wonder if it is worth implementing something from there. [https link] ( A list of known AI agents on the internet)

Q: Abbreviations, but only at beginning of line — I just wasted an hour searching for a way to create an iabbrev that triggers only at beggining of line. Say I want to convert a '===' to a '/*====================*/, but if and only if the === was typed at the start of its own line. Is that even possible?

New "Certificate and Key Validator" service to Kennedy — I added a "Certificate and Key Validator" service to Kennedy. This helps you figure out if a certificate/key change on a capsule is from a innocent change by the capsule owner, or a possible MITM attempt. Read me here: [gemini link] If I ever build a Gemin client, I would probably build something like this into it. (with a perference to disable). As in, if you access a capsule and it's cert/key is different, my client would check with...

So I'm at my gran's right now and the main fuse has blown. While we wait for Northern Powergrid to arrive, my dad's taken the liberty of changing the socket behind the sofa, since the old one is broken. Anyway, it turns out that none of her sockets are earthed, so it's a miracle nobody's been electrocuted in the 60+ years the family's been living here.

Linux Foundation now spends only 2% of their revenue on Linux. The Linux Foundation has released their 2023 Annual Report... and it is an absolute doozy. The first big headline? As of 2023, The Linux Foundation now spends just 2% -- that's two percent -- of their revenue on their namesake: The Linux Kernel. "Ask yourself this: If there is a foundation named after a specific thing... what percentage of that foundation's revenue would you expect to be spent on said thing? Let's say... "Save...

Has anyone else read works by Vydūnas. Briefly told his main interest is in realising divinity in ourself, in his own words doing so brings out true spiritual freedom. If you hadn't read any of his articles and are intested, I could translate one of his articles from Lithuanian to English and post on Gemini.

@highlight — I can't believe it! As if Facebook wasn't invasive enough, they invent the feature @highlight and reactivate it annually for you! I just saw family and friends complaining about receiving notifications for the use of that tag 🙄 I searched a way to avoid this feature (also invited them to leave Facebook): 1. Click on “Settings & Privacy,” followed by “Settings.” 2. Scroll down the page, and click on “Notifications.” 3. Click on “Tags” to choose which notifications you receive. 4....
