I've put together a newcomer guide for Gemini at gemini://smnetdocs.gemcities.com/ It's still early, and I'm looking for a few people who are new (or relatively new) to Gemini to try following it and tell me where they got stuck or confused. No formal process, just use it and send me a note at smdocs@pm.me if something didn't make sense. Thanks.

Regarding the client list, you can add offpunk for desktop/terminal. Also Lagrange is now available on ios which is a breath of fresh air. Elaho is not maintained anymore. Β· 1 week ago

For the record, the goal isnβt making my docs/capsules central; itβs making a web of good starting points. We should work on creating shared entry points, explicitly non-exclusive, that are community curated. So, how can we help newcomers without creating silos? Not sure. Maybe we need to make a pattern of posting these resources on capsules that are likely to show up in a search, not so that any one get's siloed, but so that newcomers have a choice, as opposed to just blindly poking in the dark hoping to find a good resource. Maybe capsule owners can create a simple /new or /start-here as a pattern and list a handful of resources they found useful? Β· 2 weeks ago

gritty, I will get it added. I can see how these things come and go and not pinning things makes it more difficult for newbies to find things. I am sure I am not the first to think there must be a way to get resources into the hands of newcomers easily.. more brainstorming I suppose. Β· 2 weeks ago

one option might be a pinned post on both station and BBS for newbies since they often find their way there eventually. but this might silo / prefer certain capsules or apps which goes against the "discover" Gemini culture here. avoiding silos is part of the culture so we are in a catch-22 Β· 2 weeks ago

thanks for making this, it's a great resource. one issue I do have with Gemini is that outside the official capsule, there's no "pinned" resources. your reference is great but I've seen others over the years as well and the hard part is having new comers find it when they arrive. I'll spam my guides to the main outlets every now and then but ultimately I'm just one capsule among many. not sure what the solution is, or if one is needed, but without regulars pointing newbies to these resources, I don't think they reach their potential. I'd include Alhena for desktop. it's close to Lagrange IMO for features Β· 2 weeks ago
