Hardware

We buy second-hand hardware whenever possible, that is optimized for minimum power use. Despite this, our servers have ECC memory.

We don't wish to promote the creation of newer and even faster hardware when there's so much that's been quite adequate for a long time.

This lowers costs and environmental impact.

For people wanting to run AI models, we are definitely the wrong host. We have no GPUs and our VPSs have 1 vCPU. This is plenty for many gemsites or websites, XMPP/Jabber, etc. Our servers won't win any races, but we try to make sure they are as consistent as they can be for being virtualized on shared hosts.

Router

Our router is Freya, sitting at the top of the rack. Running OpenBSD 7.8, just like Prometheus.

Our backup router, currently mostly inactive, is Thor, racked right under Freya.

Switch

Our core switch is currently a Netgear GS108.
