That’s just not true. Copyleft is a medicine against copyright. A way to fight against copyright and keep things shareable. In a world without copyright, it wouldn’t be needed. There are some fringe extra benefits like fighting against binary blobs. (Not that fighting against binary blobs isn’t important, it is, but the existence of GPL is not a complete solution against that.) Re-reading early works by Stallman and Kohn confirm that view.
They weren’t limiting their imagination to a world like what we have today. There is a human mindtrap that sees the world exactly as it is and tries to figure out why it has to remain that way.
