Parenting

I'm a dad to two boys, 9 & 8. I'm the step-dad to two, an 8 year old boy and 10 year old girl. It's extremely hard and extremely rewarding. A person can live an extremely good life and not be a parent, but not me.

Co-parenting

Having a different home to my boys' mother allows for more flexibility in my style of parenting, but more scope for friction with her's. Being a step-parent means I'm a very closely watched role model for them, without being their father, and that presents its own benefits and challenges.

Step-parenting

Step-parenting is hard. Like, really hard. Regular parenting can lay bare all a person's flaws, and step-parenting does the same, but without mercy. It's difficult to explain, in much the same way parenting is hard to explain to a non-parent. I would very much love to hear of others' experiences!
