Craft skillz 🧵
This evening I'm sewing. I have a hi-viz backpack cover with a broken strap and a pair of trousers missing a button. I can fix these things.
I was made to do this sort of thing by relatives as a small child. I once knitted a dish cloth and wove a tie (just the front bit - the rest was elastic). I think my relatives wanted me to take an interest in these things. In fact, I learned that I couldn't give a damn about making or mending for fun, but I could do it for the utility of the thing.
Later at secondary school we did needlework, but the title got changed to "fabrics" for whatever reason. I couldn't be bothered to finish the denim waistcoat that I'd started because I didn't want a denim waistcoat, especially one that looked crappily home made. The best thing about the lesson was Miss Baxter. She was half the age of most of the teachers. Hormones were bubbling.
Now I have two practical things that need doing, and I can cope.
And Miss Baxter's probably very old now. That's weird.
