Welcome to the envs.net gemini page of ~dan
This is my gemini page from my shell account at envs.net (dan@envs.net).
I joined the envs.net pubnix on Mon 12 Jan 2026 (thanks ~creme). My Matrix account on envs.net will be deleted with the whole Matrix server until before 01 Apr 2026 because of it's high maintenance costs. Check out the XMPP info below (or IRC if you really want to), if you want some more direct chat.
I did a lot of research over the years about pubnixes before deciding to finally sign up for an account at envs.net. And it seems the envs.net pubnix seems to fit best to me. I hope we all will have a good time together, but as far as I can say after two weeks with a little chatting, the Tilde citizens seem to be very friendly and helpful people. I still have to find my way around, but I'm making progress fast.
For communication I prefer email, so if you want to get in touch with me, it would be best through email. If you want some more direct chat you can also use XMPP, which is preferred over IRC, like described below. If you really want you can also contact me through Mastodon/ActivityPub. See below.
Email
If you want to contact me about my pubnix account on envs.net to make a comment, suggestion, correct something wrong or if you just want to say "Hi!", then please use my email address at envs.net. All communication about the envs.net pubnix/tilde or the Tildeverse in general should be send to the following email address:
~dan <dan@envs.net>
GnuPG KeyID: 40535FCA27803269675B0CCDA9EE067BC0745062
You can automatically receive my GnuPG key for dan@envs.net if you add "wkd" to your "auto-key-locate" option in your gpg.conf for example like this (which also automatically queries the keys.openpgp.org server, if the key isn't found via WKD (Web Key Directory):
auto-key-locate wkd,keyserver
keyserver hkps://keys.openpgp.org
trust-model tofu+pgp
auto-key-retrieve
XMPP on envs.net
Since ~creme did set up an XMPP server for the envs.net users, it's my main chatting platform. I really like XMPP because it's a lightweight and good replacement for the very expensive and resource hungry Matrix service. It also has some more neat features than IRC. I'm mainly active on the "envs" and "lounge" XMPP MUC rooms and nearly always connected.
dan@envs.net (XMPP JID)
envs@conference.envs.net XMPP MUC room
lounge@conference.envs.net XMPP MUC room
IRC on Tildechat
I'm also reachable on the Tildeverse IRC servers at ircs://irc.tilde.chat:6697 under my username "fab" on the channels #envs or #meta most of the time. If it's urgent, you also can /query me directly, but I can't promise that I'll respond immediately, because I look into IRC much more seldom than XMPP, so use XMPP wherever possible.

If you want you can also contact me through my Mastodon/ActivityPub account at envs.net:

I would be glad to hear from you!
WWW Site on envs.net
I've set up a web site on envs.net, which will now act as my main means for publishing things. I've set up a blog with my 'envs-blog' blog management engine I develop myself. It's already in a usable state for myself, but I would like to make it available for other envs.net users. That's more of a mid-to-longterm goal, because the setup process involves still a lot of manual work, but I'll maybe make a tool to set it up as automatically as possible, but still then, a lot of files have to be edited. But I think in the end it will set up a complete website skeleton, so it would be best to use it, if you're going to start a new website on envs.net.
The blog and the main site, except the Guestbook and the Image Gallery can also receive webmentions and pingbacks, although they won't appear on the page directly. They'll be collected on an rss feed I'm subscribed to, and I'll put them on the pages manually (if I like). I want to make this site as indieweb/smolnet compatible as possible, but that is a constant WIP.
I'm still not fully sure what to put on the site, but I took some inspirations from the "slash" pages. Maybe I'll add some more static pages in the future. For posting updates and articles I'll use my blog.
I've also set up a "Single File PHP Gallery" for the collection of my images, photos, screenshots and other pictures to share. You can also create different collections in subfolders, and place some description (HTML) to each collection folder. This is another dynamic page besides my blog I set up yet which I'll use continuously. There's also a guestbook, which you can sign if you like.

This is still a Work-In-Progress, so you should visit my website from time to time.
Gopher Site on envs.net
I've put up a Gopher Hole on my envs.net account, which was originally planned to be my main place to post updates and articles. But I'm already in the process of retiring it in favor of my web blog, where I post most now. But I'll keep the Gopher Hole around, just in case I have something to say which fits more on my Gopher phlog than on my blog.

Finger on envs.net
You can also fetch my Finger plan file from my account which also serves me as a timeline for my work on it. It's just a list of short notes with date, which describe in detail what I've done on a particular day. The list is already long but I believe it will grow really large during my time on envs.net. Once I move on from my newbie state then there will surely be other projects and tinkering to write about. I try to update the timeline/log/changelog on every day I work on my envs.net account. But the timeline is in reverse chronological order, so the newest changes, additions and experiments will be at the top of the list.
You can get the list with a Smolnet browser capable of the Finger protocol, like Lagrange (GUI) or Telescope (TUI), or you can use the following command to get the list on the command line:
$ finger dan@envs.net | less
Just an informational page
I won't set up a big Gemini site on envs.net. Maybe I'll add a few pages later unless this page stays the only Gemini page. I already have a relatively big Gemini site at redterminal.org, so if you want to read about me on Gemini look there.
So, that's all. I hope you're all well and so long,
~dan
