Falkon for mobile

The one that mobian and postmarketOS are desperately in need for.

Greetings, to one and all!

I suppose, that you already either have FreeBSD, Hurd, or Linux operating system installed on your machines and devices, along with the various of software that these systems offer.

About

I have decided to write this article, after I have discussed, with an important data engineer and inventor from Europe, about Falkon and postmarketOS.

One Of The Most Valuable People To Free Software For Mobile Devices

This article advocates the adoption of the HTML browser Falkon by mobile Linux projects, such as mobian and postmarket OS.

postmarketOS

postmarketOS is a Linux operating system from Germany, which is based on Alpine Linux, and is optimized for mobile devices.

It provides various of interfaces, amongst which three are official: Phosh, Plasma and SXMO.

It utilizes a modified version of a browser which is largely supported and managed by an incompetent and rogue American advertising corporation which is based in USA.

The optimizations include, enhanced privacy and graphical modifications for narrow display and touch interface.

Falkon

Falkon (formerly Qupzilla) is a snappy HTML browser, which is made in Europe, and originates from the Czech Republic.

It is written in C++ and utilizes the Qt toolkit for its graphical interface.

It has a low memory foot print and is extensible with Python and QML, which allow to create sophisticated extensions with unlimited functionalities, similarly to the XUL toolkit which is utilized by software such as Pale Moon.

The additional and significant advantage that the extension system of Falkon offers, is extensions that are written in C++, such as AdBlock and Greasemonkey.

The extensions AdBlock and Greasemonkey of Falkon are of one of the fastest and lighter implementations of userscript and adblock managers.

This is, on itself, a concern which should make Falkon a priority as a graphical HTML browser for Linux on mobile.

An Introduction To Falkon > Considerations > Plugin System

Qt

Qt is a graphical toolkit, which Falkon makes use of, and it is proven to be fast and lightweight.

Many projects, including LXQt, OpenShot, and Wireshark, have migrated from GTK+ to Qt, due to the fastness and stability of the Qt toolkit in comparison to GTK+.

The problem of mobile

Software such as mobian and postmarketOS are intended for mobile devices, devices that have no fans, and have less resources than the typical desktop and laptop computer.

Due to this state of affairs, the current HTML browser of choice is not applicable to most mobile devices that mobian and postmarketOS intend to serve.

The current browser which is utilized today is not intended for mobile usage, albeit the modifications that were made by postmarketOS have made that browser usable, alas it is reasonably usable only on devices that have at least 4GB of RAM.

The solution of Falkon

A solution to consider would be to create a Qt or QML graphical interface for Falkon.

At the mailing list of Falkon, Mr. Juraj Oravec has stated, that he is willing to program a mobile interface if such would be provided, as an external contribution.

I am willing to program it if there is a design and functionality properly described
Otherwise if none else steps up, do not expect miracles.

Conclusion

I advise to discuss about that matter with the mobian and postmarketOS developers, and developers of other mobile systems, and to promote the creation and development of a mobile graphical interface for Falkon.
