Playing with Termux
This is not going to be a technical post, rather an informative one.
It's been a while since I've been fiddling with termux on an old Redmi 6A phone, which eventually got superseeded by a new one for day-to-day use.
This phone isn't able to do almost anything anymore with current Android applications, which are becoming more and more bloated :-(
So it's now dedicated to "experiments" - and backup phone, if needed.
A few ideas
I would like to tell what I'm currently doing with termux, give you a few ideas maybe.
- I have made so that my phone is able to access the external storage on a micro-sd card soon after booting, for it to be mounted and available to termux.
For this purpose I'm using "Macrodroid" app with a macro which automatically unlocks the screen (simulating a swipe), after the phone has booted up (this is needed to let the user have access to the external memory).
Then I'm using the space on this SD card to do termux's backups:
- I'm running a LAN-only Forgejo instance (can be Gitea too, if you prefer), and I have a few repository with stuff from @wpn, code (scripts mostly) I write sometimes and such on this instance.
At the moment I don't have any intention of running a proper GIT instance anywhere else, so this termux one is just enough.
- I have a web file browser which I open from my desktop PC (or generally from LAN) if I need to access something on the phone: copying files, checking battery status (I'm saving battery % every hour to a txt file and rotate it every day) etc.. You can also send termux notifications and couple those with Macrodroid..
More on the "battery" topic: I have another script which I'm calling from a tasker plugin, always for Macrodroid, which also saves battery's percentage and timestamp every time I dis/connect the phone to the charger.
- I have installed syncthing (and that's of course installed on all my other devices at home): handy!
- Last but not least, I have a running MPD daemon: I'm syncing its Music folder from my desktop with Syncthing, keeping it light, and I'm starting playback from my main phone with a webhook trigger (again, Macrodroid - that's really a useful app :) when I go to sleep and as a radio alarm before I wake up!
End
I guess that's it for now, have fun!
