Progress of Winter Nights 2024 Oaths - Update 1
2024-12-13 - [53] 9:28
In Mid-October, I wrote a post mentioning oaths I'm making for this Lunar year. As it's about a day or 2 until the Full Moon before Yule, I figured I'd write an update on where I am on these oaths.
The Oaths
- Find and listen to at least 6 barely listened to albums from start to finish in the order intended by the artist without skipping through any songs (album song order)
- Actually read through all of "Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid" instead of constantly starting over and stopping at chapter 3 or 4
- Crochet a Winter hat by Yule (3 full moons after Winter Nights)
- Heavily clean my living quarters by Sigrblot (6 full moons after Winter Nights), to the point where I'm not ashamed of people entering those living quarters
- Build a functioning sundial from scratch, no matter what material, and get an accurate time reading, accounting for the Equation of Time and Longitude
Progress
For the first and last oaths, I have not made any progress yet. I still have about 10 and a half months to work on those oaths though and will probably utilize some of the warmer months to get those done.
For the "Godel, Escher, Bach" oath, I have been reading at least 1 chapter a week for a while and should be done with Chapter 10 later today. By next Saturday, I should officially be about halfway done with the book (~370 pages into an ~740 page book). At this pace, I should be done by February 23rd! There is even at least one person in Geminispace who is utilizing my motivation in order to finish the book themself!
For the crocheting oath, I finished 3 hats pretty early! The first one was oatmeal colored, was a little too small and I didn't like how thin the brim was. The second one was charcoal colored with an oatmeal stripe, used the Celtic Weave stitch the entire way through the hat, and was a little bit bigger, although still a little tighter than I wanted. I hadn't realized until looking at a photo of me wearing the second hat that I did the Celtic Weave stitch wrong in a way that was visible, at least to me. My third hat was bigger than the second, was cocoa colored with 2 oatmeal stripes and a charcoal stripe between the oatmeal stripes, was a little bit longer, and did the Celtic Weave stitch correctly. I even made some mittens using the Celtic Weave stitch as well, as it gets frustratingly cold in my neck of the woods... I had to utilize the hat and mittens to shovel a few days ago and to keep warm during the Arctic blast of cold air that went throught. It sure is Winter weather season...
For the cleaning oath, I have been working every week to get rid of things I don't need, usually 2-3 bags of stuff to get rid of every week. I don't know if my living quarters will be at the level of clean I want it to be by Sigrbloat, but I am working hard to make sure it's clean enough where I'm not ashamed by then.
