Halloween Is Over, Time to Prep Winter Wear

Hopefully folks got some good candy, saw some good decorations and costumes! I saw a group of adults dressed up as the Minions yelling "BANANA" over and over again, but on the bright side, I got a box of 48 full sized Snickers bars! I also got to hear "The Monster Mash" about a half dozen times, so things were good. The ladybugs have been pretty bad these last few weeks though, including today... Already had to rescue about 10 of them from my office today.
I was really hoping my next post would be written at a computer I don't own, like a public library computer, but I don't have that system in place yet, heavily based on the system I mentioned in my journal post "Finally Found My Human Calculatable Hash Function". That system is nearly done though, so hopefully my next post can be done via that system.
Just a few moments ago, I finished waterproofing a pair of tactical boots a good friend of mine gave me. It's going to take a little bit of time to figure out how to lace these to work on my feet in particular. The worst of the blisters on my heels have happened and are nearly fully healed. It's a bit of a give and take dance with these boots; I need to train them to my feet and my feet need to train into these boots.
Over the last 2 weeks, I did a bit of crocheting. I made 2 hats and a pair of mittens. This means I technically already technically met my oath of "Crochet a Winter hat by Yule (3 full moons after Winter Nights)" mentioned in my last journal post, "Winter Nights 2024 - Oaths and Deleting My Mastodon Account".
The 2 gloves and 2 hats all use the celtic weave stitch. With that said, I did the celtic weave stitch slightly wrong on the 2 hats, so I'll be making a third hat. The second hat was made because the first one was a little bit too small and the brim wasn't warm enough, so I made the second one entirely from the celtic weave stitch with no brim. The third hat will also be a little bit bigger than the second one. The gloves are almost entirely made from the celtic weave stitch, but the thumbs are just single stitch starting from a magic circle. These gloves and hats succeed at keeping my hands and top of my head warm at least!
2 comments were about my hats, one about the first one and one about the second one. For the first one, someone had noticed the day before that I was crocheting and was wondering why I would bother doing such a "stupid girl thing", I then told them I made "this hat" because I don't have the luxury of a bunch of hair on the top of my head, then the person said "People can't just make hats"... It took a bit of silence before I could muster up the words "How the heck do you think hats were made before we had machines make them?" That comment didn't anger me, it just made me confused and a little bit saddened for humanity... The second comment was from someone who yelled out "I LOVE YOUR HAT!", at which point I turned to her and said, "Thank you, I made it" and she responded "Holy crap! I freaking love you!" That comment made my day.
There is the chance I'll make a turtleneck style scarf, so a scarf that can cover my face up to the middle of the bridge of my nose all the way down to the bottom of my neck, but there would be material that would lay on my shoulders so I can have the scarf be under my jacket to prevent cold air from getting to my neck or down my jacket. It can get really stupid cold here... with at least a few days a year of -25F or colder, sometimes hitting within 2 or 3 degrees either way of -40 (anyone who has been in this level of cold will know the little fact that -40F is the same as -40C). If I'm going to be stuck walking around a bunch this Winter or shoveling a bunch of snow, I want to make sure I'm warm!
