Getting Back In Shape (For the Acutely and Chronically Under-Dopamined)

I’ve just started a new exercise regimen (because, you know, it was either that or apply for asteroid status*).

I’ve tried to get into exercise for… well… many, many years. I’ve even spent a lot of money of gym memberships that went absolutely nowhere.

I will say quickly that I was in the best shape of my life when I had a personal trainer and saw them weekly. I still struggled to be regular with my exercises on my own time, but it was still a great improvement, so if you have the resources and wherewithal to go that route, go for it, now! I may still call up my old trainer and get back on the wagon that way, so to speak.

But for right now, I’ve developed a new strategy which I think can be helpful to a lot of people. And it’s (of course) really, really dorky:

##For the month of September, I will walk n minutes per day every morning, where n is the day of the month.

See? Incredibly dorky. And also incredibly approachable. And even… incredibly effective.

I just got back from my three minute walk (ooo, Chariots of Fire!) and I already feel invigorated. Even yesterday, after my two minute walk, I felt a lot more energy.

And yes, two days ago, I literally briskly paced my little room in circles for a minute. Felt totally silly, but I didn’t feel like going outside, so that’s what I did.

I think this dorky technique would be helpful for people like me who have been out of shape for a long time.
