About me

I'm a tinkerer. I don't know much but I've been playing with Linux

since the days of Red Hat 6 and before the time of

"always-on-broadband-internet".

I'm a TV/Radio Transmitter engineer by trade - started working for

the BBC in 1988 and have been doing the same job ever since.

I'm married to an artist and live in a ramshackle old cottage in

the remote Shetland Isles.

We have had dogs (mostly Lurchers) for the last 33+ years and

currently have 2 Twist (Bedlington Terrier) & Moth (Collie

Lurcher) plus a pair of cats "Gilbert and George"

My interests include

• Radio - Amateur Radio and Short Wave Listening

• Computers - I don't write code (much)

• I keep a daily Diary - on paper, written with fountain pen and

sketches in pen/watercolour

• I play chess most days, but I'm not good at it

• HP and Swiss Micros RPN calculators

• Watching Cricket on the TV and listening to Test Match Special

(I miss the days of 198kHz Long-Wave though)

• I've been a runner and done triathlons

...but currently I'm struggling with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which

means I'm not as fit or active as I used to be. Getting Old Sucks.

• I dabble with typewriters

• I do black and white film photography occasionally
