Voted
Second last day of advance voting today. Unlike last time, where my riding had literally dozens of candidates (the "longest ballot protest" being a regular thing in Canada, and targetting leaders' ridings this time), there were just the usual four: Conservative, Liberal, New Democratic Party, and Green.
And so we drove down to the temple, and waited in line about forty minutes, and voted.
I had a brief chat with an election worker, who said that Good Friday (the first day of advance voting) had been a crush of voting like he'd never seen. I can't say I'm surprised. This election feels consequential in a way that others haven't. It's no longer "what economic policy do you want", or even "how mean do you want to be to the weakest people in society" (which is pretty damning in and of itself), but a full-on, "do you want to be like the United States?" And given how well they've managed to torch the post-war order in literally just a handful of weeks, well, I guess we'll see. The Liberals are still polling strong. Polls close to election day won't capture voting during the advance period (Easter weekend). As of today, 338 Canada is still showing the Liberals in majority territory. Polling's uncertain. Who knows. The election's a week from tomorrow.
