Little Notes: Small Web and Post-Christmas Edition
- See? I'm not the only one talking about making and maintaining your own things (break out of the walled gardens! explore the wilds!)
- I got my usual bottle of nice scotch (Glenmorangie 10 Year) for Christmas. Looking forward to sinking into my armchair with a good book and a finger of whisky.
- I just became aware of Nekoweb as another small web hosting site. Maybe the only actual neocities alternative? It does however, if you go to the Most Followed section, seem to have an overwhelmingly anime vibe (great if that's you're thing, a pass if it's from me)
- As a side note, anime has just been something I've never been able to get into. A few of my friends liked it in the 90s. I just never gelled with it.
- I won a very hard-fought game of Ticket to Ride Europe (our default TTR) against my partner and in-laws on the last turn, despite using all my stations, playing a 6-track tunnel with only one extra card to use for the checks. My MIL thought she had it in the bag.
- Olia Lialina's welcome page on welcome pages is a charming time capsule, most of its many examples now pointing to dead or squatted domains
- Double chocolate mint, shortbread, caramel thumbprint, butter tart bars: I am now approximately 50% cookies/dainties by weight
- Finally, probably something everyone knew but me, but if you Google "geocities", the results page is in MS Comic Sans
