Genre Buster Bombs
A workable definition of a genre buster bomb would be a work in a genre that destroys or significantly changes said genre, often by some form of often violent deconstruction.
- El ingenioso hidalgo don Quixote de la Mancha (1605)
- Blazing Saddles (1974)
- Watchmen (1986)
Any others I'm missing? And did Watchmen really bust a genre? I'm really not much up on the comic scene. Pretty sure there was a deconstruction, but maybe not so much the oh it's the end of a genre as we know it.
Idiomdrottning claims "Watchmen, The Longbow Hunters, and The Dark Knight Returns together destroyed light-hearted superhero comics." So this might be a genre cluster buster bomb.
Evangelion deconstructs the mecha genre, but probably the mecha genre is still going on?
