💻 On Gemini

2025-05-17

I'm new here. I'm probably 6 years late, but I'm excited. I've been reading a lot about Gemini and spent time on Gemini in the last few weeks.

It's almost that I don't need to worry anymore about Chrome winning the current incarnation of the browser wars and not knowing if Mozilla is still sane with all that they did recently. The Gemini world is simpler by design and client wars just won't possibly happen.

I enjoyed reading the early history of the Gemini protocol, here, btw:

Solderpunk's phlog with the beginnings of the Gemini protocol

Speaking of clients, the diversity is pretty great actually. I enjoy Lagrange for its thought-out beautiful presentation of content and AV-98 for its simplicity.

I'm still exploring the content that goes beyond just the protocol itself and found this list from Solderpunk to be a great starting point:

Lot's of interesting non-tech stuff on Gemini

It's such a relief also to not have encountered anything about AI on here so far. Over on the Web, I'm constantly asking myself what's wrong with people and I was beginning to slowly but steadily lose my faith in humanity. I very much enjoy the change of scenery.
