One of the things that often happens when we search the “world wide web” (http) for information about the Gemini protocol is that we come across Google's AI. Observing this, I ask the question: Does the word “Gemini” itself harm the Gemini protocol?
A) Not at all, you just have to search for Gemini protocol instead of just Gemini.
B) Quite a lot. The Gemini protocol was created in 2019, and Google launched its AI under the name Gemini at the end of 2023.

Honestly, probably a little. Only because people looking for Gemini will come across the "AI" crap before they ever hit this. But that said, Screw Google, Gemini protocol was around first. Let them change the name of their trash. · 3 weeks ago
I think it's actually a good thing. The less attention from the corporate world and the "general" public, the better. · 3 weeks ago
I'd like Gemini to stay a word of mouth/exploration thing. The longer we stay small the longer we stave off being overrun by corpo droids, bots, and advertisers; I'm doing (and have done) my part to keep it so, often against my own financial interests. · 4 weeks ago
Considering how often Google kills products, the Gemini protocol will likely outlive an LLM by the same name. · 4 weeks ago
If somebody is searching for "Gemini" specifically because they're interested in the Gemini protocol, then the search results aren't going to delay them that much. If they already know the name, then they'll find their way here.
Heck, they could ask the Gemini LLM for instructions, I know for a fact that it will help. :) · 4 weeks ago
It is indeed difficult to wade through all the AI dross to get here. · 1 month ago
(A) There's no doubt in my mind that Google named their AI Gemini in order to passively bury the Gemini protocol. Maybe sounds like a paranoid conspiracy theory, but they could not have not known an up and coming protocol had the name Gemini. They are a search company, after all, and would have noticed it making waves on Hacker News. Google could have chosen any other name. Apollo for example. Or Mercury. Or anything else. Somehow, they ended up with Gemini and crushed the Gemini protocol in search results. Not a coincidence, and completely malicious. Just my opinon. · 1 month ago
both, aka:
i feel like it's good it's not that much visible cause there won't be that much kids messing up this space. but at same time yea, google is assholes here rn… like i'd have understood they bury it smh anyway for whatever else in results, but ai was just worst move of them… · 1 month ago
