@el3ctron - This looks interesting, thank you for sharing! Letanias sound amusing... I'll see what I can understand of the links (No hablo mucho espanol). FWIW, I'm actually very religious, so any remnants of religious tradition from somewhere else still interests me. Wishing you a happy season. :) · 1 day ago

· 2 days ago

@half_elf_monk this second one is called the letanías, that are funny prayings pronuncied like a priest on its church, they talk on soccer, politics, economy, celebrities, media, international scandals and even activist stuff and good civic behaviour, its a way to protest and expression in a very funny way https://youtu.be/7zfYgLye3N8?si=YL08Wmr6b1p0EcWM there is a lot of very local words and jokes that is so hard to traduce, but when you can decode it are sooooo funny https://youtu.be/S2pMD25--Us?si=GcVTx9do62kp-dY5&t=437 · 2 days ago

@half_elf_monk one of them is the Joselitos funeral, that is celebrated when carnival ends, people dramatized a dead, joselitos wifes, and "girls" who was pregnant while carnival cry his parture, but all is a prank all over religious objects https://youtu.be/YuUQH-iTRms?si=MTyAp1rw5Eer1hUB&t=1523 this other link explains this carnival final https://www.eltiempo.com/colombia/barranquilla/quien-es-joselito-carnaval-y-por-que-su-entierro-es-la-despedida-mas-festiva-de-barranquilla-3432131 · 2 days ago

@half_elf_monk thanks for sharing your culture, i wonderered where are you from, and your celebrations names. And yes, i am from Colombia, generally, Latinoamérica have a 500 years of religious inheritance, but today people are more oppened and wait for hollydays more to relax, party and share more than go to a church and pray. Symbolic objects still present, but not tooked seriusly as 2/3 generations did. In Barranquilla Carnival are various expressions where some catholic expressions are tooked like a teatrical funny prank, im going to share two of them, in two separate post · 2 days ago

@el3ctron - that sounds pretty fun! Here in the north we also have a variety of parties, in part to ward off the gloom from cold dreary weather. Question for you, since you're from ... Colombia? ...Is carnival overtly religiously themed, or pretty secular at this point? Lots of those feasts had religious origins. I'm curious how much of that remains, if any. · 2 days ago

@half_elf_monk thanks for read me! well, 26/27/28 do not have "official" celebrations, but you now, this is Latinoamérica, and specially in Colombia, every december day is party, specially on caribean north coast, where they party if they are sad to get happy, and party if they are happy to celebrate! hahahaha ;) 24 and 31 December is something like a family party, but all other days is a ocassion to meet your old friends who came from other countries/cities and enjoy hollydays, and still where december is gone, people go to parties called the pre-carnival, pre-pre-carnival and pre-pre-pre-carnival :D https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnaval_de_Barranquilla#Precarnaval · 3 days ago

Hey @el3ctron , what traditions do you all have for the days following Christmas? I know there are feasts on the 26/27/28 at least, is there anything going on for those? What's that like? · 3 days ago
