talking about training data, there is an aesthetics fandom.com wiki and discord with very dedicated teen contributors. in pelly's book, she implied that _that_ specific wiki is where many companies building mood ai look to to curate niche subculture algorithmically. like she was basically saying. "wow :/. look at all these kids taking a very data-oriented approach to aesthetics, that's lowkey off and sus and ALSO when they build a repository of knowledge for the public to get a better hold of these trends, look who the real winners are[em dash]ai companies!" there was a part earlier where she was unsettled by fans of a scene she interviewed barely having any knowledge of it besides "it's niche, i like the vibes" but pivoting to the wiki, like, sure some are ahistorical and just plain made up but there is a true search for meaning in the general contributor audience there. i dont really like her kind of pastoral yearning surrounding subcultures and music. like mcdonald was right in that respect: she's really zoned in on being a hater

when i basically ask other people for info a lot of the time they never ask for mine even if the info i asked is slightly compromising on their end.

ex. a project teammate talked about ao3 with this other teammate who wasn't really familiar and didn't have an account. but she had either sent him her account name or he found it off her art instagram. he then lamented that he couldn't see her fics because she hid them for logged-out users to deter some training data scraping. she talked about how she really didn't like that people could find it so she removed the link from there (it's still on her connected socials tho. so it's still trivial to find). but i wasn't looking atp. i just straight up told her, what's your ao3 account? i have one myself so i can check out your works :3. and then she just gave it to me. but she added "pls don't look at my bookmarks so i can still have some dignity, they're embarrassing and years old." i also went to her bluesky from her ao3 (also on her art account) and discussed her following and jus like ykno how we interface with bluesky. she did not ask for any of mine a single time. i didn't comment on how her bsky has her ao3 listed in her profile

when people reflect the same question i asked after they answer in my head im like. Good Job.

sometimes kennel friend will make a statement about society like it's profound-- okay wtf i was scrolling through old messages and this completely rebranded user who used to obviously brand themselves as a furry in every image, text, etc identifier completely blindsided me. i half-thought there was some secret discord feature or server configuration that had blocked all their messages from being received by me. who is this!! especially because it's really hard to seaech on mobile for content by users not in a server anymore. but i figured it out

sometimes i will have found the most definitive answer to minor things that ppl are still wondering about. but the greater world is still operating on conjecture, with no one even daring to find that same available, definitive answer. the most recent example: what's up with how the duckduckgo easter egg icons are designed? 4 months ago, the ddg cofounder answered it. all the kids on twitter are floundering and sourcing other conjecture for their conjecture to this second

the gist of it is our instincts are vaguely aligned and instead of being silent, as a responsible moderator, they sent an offhand notice even though nothing has warranted it yet

someone said something that kinda made me raise an eyebrow and check my messages on our other mutual server and i was relieved to find out

1. i have no messages in that server

2. the only time i talked in that community was through a matrix bridge

3. i used a burner matrix account to post in the corresponding room (i didn't remember this)

lowkey i put my discord accounts in all sorts of servers even with the guarantee of previews

i had an exam and in my head, that one cymbals eats guitars intro was constantly playing in my head. i havent listened in maybe a year or more idk why that popped up
