Web Tings is a record of my attempts at reclaiming the internet for myself. Also to share some finds I found fun & interesting.

Finally setting up a RSS Reader.

I decided to try out Feeeed on iOS.

I had a few blogs and substacks in mind that I wanted to follow but that was about it. I didn’t realize how helpful having this app would be. The discovery feature led me sites I even wasn't aware of. It also allowed me to follow some social accounts so I don't need to actual use the app itself and risk endless scrolling. After a few days of using it. I ended convinced both my partner and a friend to set up their own readers. My partner has been using Newsify iOS cause they are a ‘whatever first in the app store’ kind of guy.

Cool Finds:

Journalism with a focus on how tech is shaping current events that actually feels critical of tech. Nothing really more I have to say about that, just happy to find it.

A digital magazine with articles using information from JSTOR a digital scholarly library. I clicked cause I saw ‘breadfruit’ (my beloved) in an article title, I followed cause I learned so much from that one read!

TBh, I have no idea why I’m here. I once soldered a circuit board after watching 5 mins of a youtube video. It kind of worked. It’s just fun looking at the stuff people make even if my knowledge of what's going on is limited.

Creativity meets technology Just like me! ჱ̒⸝⸝•̀֊•́⸝⸝) jk jk. I’m actually not that crazy about this one cause they seem pro ai in creative fields which makes my eyes roll back into my head. They still have a lot of interesting articles so it’s still worth the follow for me.

Social Media ONLY as a jumping off point.

I have this horrible habit of favoriting post with the mindset of “oh i search that later”. Then like the liar I am, I have a hundred things saved and I’m still just scrolling not leaving the app.

Well no more bucko! Before the whole “tiktok ban jk just kidding everyone say thank you trump” fiasco, I downloaded all my favs and likes onto my desktop using the browser extension: myfaveTT.

So now going forward, instead of using the app I’m finally going through my saved stuff.

Cool Finds

A public domain content search engine. I find the UX to be a little annoying but it’s really fun to just type a word in, click around, and see what comes up. From here I found this gem in all it’s glory:

It has the full book which was such a joy to look through. You could also search their collections directly which gave more books and articles to check out.

What's Next?

I’m started working on being less dependent on Google by:

• Trying out a new browser: Vivalia (I’m kind of obsessed with it so far)
• Playing around with different search engines.
• Looking into Proton specifically Docs within Proton Drive.

I'm also:

• Cleaning out my email inboxes and unsubscribing to majority of bullshit to leave more room for things I’ll actually read.
• Creating a link tree/hub of sorts on Neocitites. (I started making a homepage back in 2022 and never finished lol)
• Possibly trying out Deezer as a Spotify alternative.
