Hey, I totally forgot about this tinylog! Maybe a few updates wouldn't hurt.

Oh dear, had way too much coffee while hosting a children's birthday party. ☕️☕️☕️ Nice to see the relatives but they arrived at different times so there were multiple rounds of cake & coffee servings.

Today's earworm:

DOOM II (1994): Endgame Music

Finally updated my eyeglass prescription after too many years. For the first time, I have a separate pair specifically for computer use, a.k.a. reading glasses. It's great being able to bump the monitor resolution up a bit as everything is a bit clearer/magnified. 🤓

I invested (wasted?) a bunch of my time upgrading the old Windows 10 PC to Windows 11. Tried my damnest to do an actual upgrade, but even after fixing all the BIOS/TPM/etc. hurdles (even disabling Developer Mode since that was causing some type of installer error), it just didn't want to do the upgrade. Ended up nuking the disk and doing a clean install.

Perhaps that was for the best. At least everything is squeaky clean, now.

Now I get to reinstall and configure all the mandatory apps, which feels like a form of meditation to me. Always enjoyable, despite, you know, WINDOWS.

It would be great if I had time to write some gemlog posts. Alas, I don't have such large blocks of focus time currently...

I've been reading a number of books (fiction) recently. It's been a while since I've been able to do much reading. I suppose the subject matter also makes a difference; I've been focusing on fluffy, feel-good, funny novels that don't require much in the way of focus or hard thinking.

I'm again reminded that reading is a great way to improve the quality of one's writing, both in terms of vocabulary and technique.

Flu season sucks.

I should be grateful that it is the first time this fall/winter that anybody here has really been sick, though.

Finished The Veilguard. The whole game was an intense experience. The final chapters were particularly rewarding but also heart-wrenchingly bittersweet. I feel like I need some time for emotional processing.

2025-02-01 12:00:23 EET

Whoa, The Veilguard has really sucked me in completely. It dominates my off hours currently, but I'm nearing the end of the story. I kinda don't want the game to end, though, it's too good!

Playing _Dragon Age: The Veilguard_, I'm kinda missing the wide open spaces of Inquisition. Everything so far seems quite mazelike and cramped, although quite sprawling.

The first day back at work is always such a drag. I cannot recall a single thing I was working on. It'll likely take the rest of the week to get back up to speed.

Final day of vacation... Enjoying some pizza and relaxing with Balatro and Dragon Age. 🕹️

2025-01-10 16:57:47 EET

I lasted two days. The laptop is back at the kitchen table, where it is extremely easy to get to, thus facilitating all kinds of accidental vacation productivity.

2025-01-09 18:57:29 EET

Today's movie was _Oppenheimer_. I was certainly engrossed for the full three hours, however I'm not sure if I actually managed to follow the events completely. Par for the course with Nolan, I suppose.

2025-01-08 19:23:27 EET

To prevent accidentally becoming productive during my vacation, I've moved the laptop to a more inconvenient location and will be keeping an iPad and an external keyboard on the kitchen table.

Of course, with jked I can just keep working via ssh but iPadOS keyboard support kinda sucks so maybe that's enough of a deterrent.

Last week of vacation in progress. Finally watched _Deadpool & Wolverine_ and quite enjoyed it! There are a couple of other movies I've been intending to watch. It's been a while since I've been able to really take it easy; greatly appreciating these couple of days.

Busy weekend! I was out on the ski slopes teaching the eldest the basics of downhill skiing. He managed it pretty well in the end. The learning slope was blessedly flat so walking/running it up and down for a couple of hours was nice exercise for me.

Oof, that evening coffee messed up my sleeping rhythm. Ended up playing Dragon Age until 2 AM on New Year's Eve. Hopefully getting back to normal now.

Note to self: fix that Bubble bug where image posts with an empty body have an unnecessary empty line. EDIT: Fixed now!

2025, here we go!

2024-12-31 10:59:25 EET

My diet in December has consisted of generous amounts of coffee and chocolate pralines. As usual. Probably should stop eating 400 kcal of chocolate per day, tho.

Now I'm tempted to add periodic fetching of remote Tinylogs, to be displayed dynamically in the same feed. Must resist the temptation! That would create another bidirectional social feed, and I'm not looking to add another one of those in my life.

Technically, it would be fairly simple using the code I wrote for parsing and rendering the Tinylog.

2024-12-30 20:46:28 EET

The Booster script now supports the Tinylog "license" metadata field as well.

For a more streamlined appearance, the Edit links now only appear when looking at an individual entry.

Every Christmas I forget to listen to Christmas music, although that's a big part of creating the proper atmosphere. Sia's _Everyday is Christmas_ (2017) is a surprisingly good choice, if one is in a pop mood.
