The Backroad to Civilization
January 19th, 2025:
I've finally deleted my Facebook account. I'd planned to do it
years ago, but kept it alive solely to communicate with my change-adverse
family and friends, going so far as to pare down my friends list to
roughly 25 people to accomodate the holdouts.
During that time, I realized I only *really* interacted with a small
handful of these 25 folks, so the decision was made to terminate my
account at midnight last night. I gave my family a week's notice, gave
them a list of other (Fediverse) social media platforms I'm on, asked for
- their* contact methods, then pulled the plug.
Two people reached out. I exchanged phone numbers with a semi-local
friend, and exchanged email addresses with an elderly aunt. Suppose the
rest of the family and I will find a way to get in touch if we need.
My Friendica posts are slowly trickling through to the rest of the
Fediverse now... at least to Mastodon. I'm showing posts up 'til January
6th now, so that's good. Posts don't seem to be filtering out to Diaspora
yet, though. I checked, and none of my Friendica posts have reached my
Diaspora account since early December.
Oh well, I'm sure it'll get sorted soon enough.
