i recently posted on my microblog about my disillusionment with the web amidst the constant deluge of advertisements. i'm keeping this page up to have a archive of pages i actually like visiting.
puzzles
i really like puzzles, though i'm not really good at them. you probably know most of these, but they're worth a click and a play. great way to start a day at work or pepper throughout.
you get five daily puzzles of increasing difficulty. i can generally get through the first three, the fourth and fifth are pretty hard for me though. no back archive.
new puzzle from 2025. a historic headline is chosen every day, then words within the headline are replaced with a phrase that hints towards the original word, and then words within the phrases are replaced in the same way and so on. a really fun recursive mess. one daily but there's a free archive of all the puzzles so far from the beginning of the year. the early ones are A LOT harder, but very fun to puzzle through.
new to me. i find these really difficult. basically just one clue a day from a cryptic crossword to help teach the fundamentals of solving cryptics. a lot of wordplay and very punny in a way. there is a paid archive of past puzzles for people who pay for memberships
very basic logic puzzle that's made entertaining by some light world-building on the character, weapon, and location cards. every character has a hair color, zodiac sign, height. weapons have material properties. locations are inside/outside and have some characteristics. going through the cards and figuring out which correspond to the clues is fun, though the puzzles are normally pretty easy.
a daily logic puzzle, you determine who is innocent and who is guilty base on clue from each subsequent determination. you cannot make a correct determination until enough evidence has been turned up to support the assertion of innocence or guilt. a bit different than anything else i've played. no archive of previous puzzles is sad because i'd like to play more of them! there is a "pay what you want" archive of 50 puzzles (minimum of a dollar to get access). this is a logic puzzle, so it is important to understand the strictness of identifers and enumerators. between is exclusive of the ends, more is strictly more (as is less). neighboring is (at most) the eight cells around a cell, including diagonals. to the left, right, above, or beneath indicate in the same row or column. there is also a hint function that highlights the most pertinent information currently available and pressing again can direct you to a person to whom it is related.
