ATA 52 - DOORS
- The A318 and A319 are equipped with two over-wing emergency exits (one each side).
- The A320 is equipped with four over-wing emergency exits (two on each side).
- The A321 is equipped with four emergency exit doors (two on each side) located forward and aft of the wing.
- A318, A319, A320 emergency doors can be opened also from outside (red handle).
- The bulk cargo door is installed aft of the aft cargo door on the A320 and A321.
- 12 door stop fittings take pressurization forces from the door to the fuselage.
- An armed entry door will automatically disarm if opened from outside.
- Over wing emergency exit To disarm the mechanism, turn the retractable pin a quarter turn anticlockwise.
- The cargo door is mechanically locked and operated by the yellow hydraulic system.
- When the door is in the "FULLY OPEN" and locked position, the green indicator comes on.
- The latching shaft, which is connected to the operating handle by an adjustable rod, operates all the hooks.
- In lock position Cargo door Green marks are visible through the locking indicators.
- Cargo doors are located on the RH side of the fuselage, they are equipped with a pressure vent door that opens as soon as the a/c lands, in order to equalize pressure between inside and outside before opening the door.
TRICK: In case we remain locked inside the cockpit by locked cockpit door: remove electrical power in order to unlock it.
- In case of emergency, entry doors accumulator will discharge and the accumulator/damper assy diaphragm has to be replaced.
- For normal closing, make sure that the manual Y-Z latches are in the raised position.
- When the hydraulic pressure is high enough, the blocking piston enables the selector to move fully to the "CLOSED" position and to pressurize the retraction chambers of the actuators.
- The locking hook and the locking shaft proximity switches provide door indication on
the ECAM DOOR page via the System DataAcquisition Concentrator (SDAC).
- The FWD and aft cargo doors have three similar proximity switches: the handle proximity switch, the frame proximity switch, the latching shaft proximity switch signal go to LGCIUs.
- When using Yellow hydraulic pump to operate cargo doors, PTU and Flight Controls are automatically inhibited. Yellow electric pump will remain on up to 10 seconds after operation handle release.
- Once cargo doors are fully open, actuators will maintain hydraulic pressure keeping the doors securely locked. A green light appears on cargo doors control panel (light can be tested by pressing it).
- Cockpit door locking mechanism is driven by CDCU (Cockpit Door Control Unit), it’s a single unit with 2 channels.
- If entry door pressure indication flashes RED: do not open the door, there’s still
residual pressure inside the cabin, CABIN PRESS > AMBIENT PRESS.
