Gruber on the Pebble coming back

A non-dystopian tech story.

Red Dead Redemption 2 vs. A Tiny CRT

Video game essayist Any Austin plays a modern game on an old TV and thinks about it.

Thorn by Gila RPGs

I'm interested in the concept of a diceless game that supports exploration and combat, and in practice I get through plenty of gaming sessions without much rolling BUT I do wonder if something special is lost when you never have little chunks of molded plastic telling you what happens next. I think I'll have to check it out.

Fragments of Stellar Technology

Chris McDowall is designing his next game, with blog commentary on the current state and process. He did this for Mythic Bastionland too and it was cool to see how it changed over time. His design approach is to explore lots of ideas and then trim down to the best bits.

Penny Arcade on DeepSeek

Funny.

Kennedy-pilled by Kate Beaton

Kate Beaton made a comic about the time JFK tried to replace the Canadian Prime Minister.

The Snacks and Cereals of 2024

A very detailed look back on the year! I like the Friends cereal review:

It must mean something. At the very end of the year 2024, General Mills decided to make a F•R•I•E•N•D•S cereal. This is exciting for someone, or many someones, for some reason, or many reasons, and it’s not for me to judge, or to question, just to accept and let the cereal pour over me.
Good Enough by Errant Adventures' Steve Morrison

An old post about creativity, imposter syndrome, and encouragement.

The Lego Blocks of RPG Design (w/ Levi Kornelsen)

Top quality episode of Yes Indie'd.

David Malki telling the story of his loose connection to a comic called Cerebus, which I had never heard of (but sounds interesting (but maybe not interesting enough to read)). Anyway, this post is good.

Sprigs and Kindling

The Carved from Brindlewood fan zine continues with a second volume, busting with stuff.
