Mythic Bastionland: Oath's End
I wrote a short hack of Mythic Bastionland by Chris McDowall (a game I love). I think it would be a fun way to play for a one shot, kind of inspired by stuff like Trophy ("play to win... play to lose").
Here is my thing:
Mythic Bastionland: Oath's End
Variant rules for melancholy one shots.
Decline
When the Company encounters an Omen, each player rolls a d6. They must strike out the corresponding item on their character sheet:
1. Passion
2. Feat: Smite
3. Feat: Focus
4. Feat: Deny
5. Ability
6. Name (see RECOVERY)
When an item from this list is struck out, it can no longer be used. If a player rolls an item which is already struck out, their Knight instead loses one die from their Legacy pool (see LEGACY).
When the last item is struck out, the Knight's story will soon draw to a close. If they live, they will leave the Company at the next opportune moment.
Recovery
A Nameless Knight is sundered from the warmth of the Realm. Hospitality cannot restore their Vigour. Monuments cannot restore their Spirit.
The Realm
The Holdings are ruled by nobles and merchants. There are no Knights among their Councils. Seers are forgotten or only known in isolated villages.
Legacy
Each player starts the session with a pool of three d6s. The dice pool size may be reduced during the session (see DECLINE).
At the end of the session each player chooses which other players to give their dice to, saying what deed the relevant Knight should be remembered for. When all the exchanges are complete, each player rolls their dice and takes the highest result:
1. They are remembered as a villain
2. They are forgotten
3. They are a footnote in an obscure text
4. They are remembered well, in another hero's story
5. They did many great deeds and songs are sung in their honour
6. They saved the Realm and are a paragon for generations to come
