Some notes and things

Making devterm less of a hair shirt

The devterm is a raspberry pi CM3,4,5?

based handheld computer. It's impossible to buy

new and people charge rip-off prices for them

used on eBay. It has been rendered obsolete

by the newer uconsole. (That's "microconsole";

only knuckle-draggers who didn't learn their

Greek say "You-console.")

While you can still buy uconsole if you're

willing to wait half a year (and potentially

have to pay insane customs tariffs), it

still comes with just a CM4-lite w/4GB RAM so

is not really much of an upgrade. Anyway, on to

the notes to self:

The right distro

Debian sucks. It has always been a shambolic mess

of poorly maintained packages with no easy way

to build things from source (Debian has never had

anything like FreeBSD ports or Arch AUR.) Save

yourself the Makefile headaches and get Manjaro.

About the only reason to use it on Pi is you

get Mathematica for free.

Dealing with a screen only 480 pixels high

Zoom out:

xrander --output DSI-1 --scale 1.5

Return to normal res.:

same as above, but with --scale 1

Coping with a rubbish trackball

Get enjoy daemon. You can do it the dumb way

with xinput, but enjoy was made for the devterm

and is actually usable.

Well, that's enough for today. I should break

up this page into smaller pieces as I continue

complaining about my junk.
