This Sunday I watched ,,Der Fuchs'' aka "The Fox", an Austrian movie on a simple premise: the quasi-paternal care of a soldier for an orphan fox. The crux of the story lies on the soldier's, percieved, background of abandonment; his family, quite simply, cannot support him. Necessity forces Father, yeah with an old-fashioned capital "F", to place the kid under the care of a well-to-do farmer, in exchange for work. When adolf hitler (yeah, no capital letters) eats up Austria, the then soldier is absorbed into the Wehrmacht and, amid war, he finds this wee fox pup. And he takes it in, caring for the little critter with passion and... I'll stop here. It's not about war, it's not about finding some sort of relief to any blame. It's just a story about healing, family and finding some way to understand, perhaps to forgive.
